The World Bank reported that Indonesia has suffered a loss of USD 16.1 billion, or Rp226,37 trillion as a result of land and forest fires that hit several wiayah in Indonesia throughout 2015.
The amount of the loss is equivalent to 1.9 percent of the total GDP of Indonesia, and is equivalent to doubling the cost of the reconstruction of Aceh after the tsunami disaster in 2004.
Forest fires that occurred during 2015 have resulted in the growth of gross domestic product (GDP) in some areas. National economic growth also helped hampered because of the declining value of the production and distribution of the area affected by forest fires.
Therefore, the World Bank urged the government can take advantage of the budget in 2016 to accelerate the growth of the national economy, particularly in areas affected by forest fires. Government spending is recommended for use on three main sectors: infrastructure, health care, and social assistance programs.
"Therefore, it is very much appreciated commitment of the budget will be more public investment in infrastructure, health care, and social assistance programs," said World Bank Country Director in Indonesia, Rodrigo Chaves, in his statement on Monday (12/15/2015) ,
Borneo is the region most severely affected by forest fires in 2015. This is due to the disruption of the production and distribution of mining natural resources from forest fires. According to data from the World Bank, Borneo GDP fell by 1.2 percent in the third quarter-2015.
To that end, the World Bank warned that the Government of Indonesia to maintain economic growth in various regions in Indonesia that did not come back hit by forest fires and the shadow of China's economic slowdown in 2015.
